Luminaries: Home for the Holidays

Welcome back, and thanks for joining me! I hope you all have your Thanksgiving menus planned out.

Beachmum and I put the final touches on our game plan Saturday and we're going to the grocery store this afternoon to get all the supplies. I know it's going to be delicious due to the sheer number of times butter, heavy cream, sour cream and cream cheese came up on the ingredient lists.

Thanksgiving Menu

Roast Turkey with Citrus and Peppercorn Dry Brine, Bon Appetit Magazine

Pork and Sage Stuffing, Beachpop's Family Recipe
No recipe exists. It's all done by eyeballing and tasting. We make it in the sink.

Green Bean Casserole, Food Network

Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes, Bon Appetit Magazine

Salt and Pepper Biscuits, Bon Appetit Magazine

Pumpkin, Caramel and Pecan Cheesecake, Kraft Foods

Cranberry Margaritas, Annie's Eats

Luminaries

I saw these wonderful house shaped luminaries on the Decor8 blog. There was a free template to go along with them, too. I thought they'd look wonderful decorating a mantle or dinner table during the holidays.

Click HERE to view the blog post and download the FREE templates.

Since these luminaries will be made from paper, I recommend using a battery operated tea light. Nothing spoils a holiday dinner quite like a visit from the local fire department.

What are you cooking up this year?

Steampunk unLimited

Kathy and I are going on a road trip with Mr. Lifeguard and Liz, the Unpaid Intern, to Steampunk unLimited at the Strasburg Rail Road. We're also taking our legal counsel with us in case we need bailing out of jail - you never know what can happen when so much fabulousness is in one place!

Technically this is a business trip because we are going to check out vendors for Steampunk Soiree 2014 and get inspired by all the steampunky goodness for ways to make this already epic event over the top amazing!

Liz will have the camera again, so there may be a road trip video on it's way to my YouTube channel! ;)

Mini Album Share

I created the "Mini Treasures" album from Kathy's book Interactive Mini Albums. It was super quick and easy to put together - only took me one and a half episodes of the show I was watching to finish. I have to admit that it was really relaxing to use someone else's instructions to put a project together and not have to think of everything on my own!

Click HERE for more information on Kathy's book!

I have a quick flip through of the album up over on my YouTube Channel. Watch the video below or click the link to watch over on YouTube (but be sure to come back and enter the giveaway): Mini Treasures Album Share.

USTREAM TODAY: Easy Advent Cones

We're almost halfway through November already, which means it's time to get to work on your 2014 Advent Calendar, if you haven't already. Click the links below to download the template for today's project, but be sure to come back here and answer the question for today's giveaway!

Today's USTREAM Project

I saw this wonderful idea for a Valentine's Day decoration on the Casa e Cose blog and thought it would make a fabulous Advent Calendar with a little tweaking:

Can't you picture a row of 24 paper cones, all done in winter or Christmas colors, hanging from the mantle or a row of twinkle lights? What a wonderful twist on the Advent Calendar that would be!

Gather your Christmas papers, ribbons and embellishments together and join me live this afternoon and evening to see me make some Advent Cones - hopefully it will inspire your own handmade calendar.

I'll be using the leftovers from my Christmas Kit to make my cones, so this is a great bonus project for those of you that got the kit!

I host classes on my USTREAM channel every Thursday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Eastern USA and then again from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM Eastern USA time.

 Layout Week

In other news, last week was Layout Week over on my USTREAM channel, so I thought I would post the photos of the layouts we created. We made one creepy Halloween layouts and one happy Halloween layout.

For the first layout, I used photos from the Asbury Park Zombie Walk that Zandra from Scraps to Beauty shared with me. I followed the sketch pretty closely.

For the next layout, I actually turned the sketch on its side and used it that way. This is a good way to stretch your favorite sketches and get multiple layouts from one sketch.

Both layouts were inspired by the same sketch:

This sketch is from Sassy Lil' Sketches: http://sassylilsketches.blogspot.com/p/sketches.html

Creepy

This layout uses My Mind's Eye "Happy Haunting" - click here to purchase: http://amzn.to/198ouYU

Love these glittered, layered stickers from My Mind's Eye - available here: http://amzn.to/198oTe0

These fancy brads make a great addition to a page: http://amzn.to/198p9tu

Happy Halloween!

Totally different look - just rotate 90 degrees!

These stickers came in the collection pack (http://amzn.to/198ouYU).
They look great "hanging" from the decorative brads (http://amzn.to/198p9tu)!

I used repeated circles floating up the side of the layout to soften all the sharp edges and add a festive air to the page!

Repeating the date helps reinforce the Halloween theme.

Giveaway

To be eligible to win the EK Success Large Tag Punch, answer the following question in the comments below before 11:59 p.m. Eastern USA time TONIGHT.

What is your favorite event, holiday or season to scrapbook?
