Another Look: Convertible Album + GIVEAWAY!

Happy Wednesday! A while back I was bopping around YouTube and saw some lovely albums from Ginger at My Sister's Scrapper.

Ginger

I asked Ginger if she'd like to create a project with one of our tutorials and some products from our shop and she graciously agreed. Look at the gorgeous album she created with our Convertible Album tutorial (the first one I ever wrote) and our Prima Something Blue kit.

A Fresh Look

To see Ginger's take on the Convertible Album, watch this awesome video. You can watch in the window below, or click this link to watch over on YouTube: Something Blue Convertible Album.

Ginger is also giving away a copy of the Convertible Album manual on her blog, so be sure to stop by there and leave her some love for a chance to win.

Have a great week!

Ready to Crop Out Cancer!?!!!

 Crop Out Cancer

Starting at 2:00 p.m. Eastern USA time TODAY I am hosting a free online class and crop in my classroom open to all paper crafters. This is a charity crop to benefit the American Cancer Society and the National Kidney Foundation.

During the crop, I will teach a live class on my new "Layers of Love" album.
This hard cover paper bag album was designed especially for this event, and holds over 42 4"x6" photos. Copies of this manual will be sent to anyone who donates to the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney Foundation (details below) during the crop.

Layers of Love Album

The "Layers of Love" album was designed especially for this event. I will be teaching this album live on the air during the Crop out Cancer event on April 12th. See the "Ways to Give" section of this blog post for more information on how to get a copy of the manual.

This paper bag album's hard cover and sturdy spine protect it from wear and tear while making it look beautifully and professionally hand crafted! Holding over 42 4"x6" photos, this album makes a wonderful gift or showcase for a special event.
The 42-page manual contains a supply list, cutting guide, detailed measurements and step-by-step instructions with over 150 color photos for completing this project.

Ways to Give

To date we have raised over $2,500.00 for the American Cancer Society, National Kidney Foundation and various international cancer fighting charities. We've also collected over $3,000.00 worth of supplies for Children's Hospitals around the world. THAT'S SO AWESOME!

There are still two ways to give and receive a copy of the "Layers of Love" manual before it goes on sale April 14th - please read the below instructions carefully.

Donate financially to the American Cancer Society through our Mosaic of Love web page before 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2014.

Be sure to include your name and email when you donate.
We have no way of tracking anonymous donations.

Donate financially to the National Kidney Foundation before 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2014.

Because we have no way of tracking donations to NKF, please forward your donation confirmation/receipt to info@kathrynscraps.com to receive your manual and/or prize entry.

For non-USA participants only, make a financial donation to a cancer-fighting charity in your country and forward the receipt to Kathryn Scraps before 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2014.
Because we have no way of tracking these donations, please forward your donation confirmation/receipt to info@kathrynscraps.com to receive your manual and/or prize entry.

Classroom Chat: How To and FAQ

We're just a few days away from Crop Out Cancer and I am so excited! Yesterday I prepared all my supplies for the class, so everything should go really smoothly. :)
Mr. Lifeguard and I put together a brief video overview of the classroom and chat so that you will be prepared on Saturday. The most important thing you can do between now and then is make sure you have the most up to date version of Java available.
Watch below, read the FAQ and don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions!

 Classroom FAQ:

Q. How do I get to the classroom early so I can make sure my Java is up-to-date?

Q. How I update/install Java for my PC?

Q. How do I update/install Java for my Mac?

Q. I updated my Java but cannot connect with my OS-9 or below Mac.
AddonChat is not supported on Macintosh OS 9.x and below systems. AddonChat runs best on OS X when using Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer or Safari. We encourage you to use the Software Update utility provided in OS-X to ensure that you're using the very latest version of Java. OS-X 10.4.7 or better is strongly recommended.

Q. What time is Crop Out Cancer?
Saturday, April 12, 2014 beginning at 2:00 p.m. Eastern USA time.

Thank You!

NEW VIDEO: Liz & Gandalf, 12"x12" Layout

Happy Friday! Today I have something exciting planned - I am going with Liz the Underpaid Intern to Charm City Cakes in Baltimore, MD to meet with a cake artist about the cake for Steampunk Soiree.

After that, I have some fun birthday stuff planned for Liz. She recently turned 30 (gasp!) so I have to treat her to some fabulousness to take the sting out.

Speaking of Liz turning 30, at Liz's family birthday dinner Beachmum said she didn't feel old enough to have a child who is 30. Considering that I am 33, does this mean I am adopted? Discuss. My brother (adopted brother?) Scott and I decided at dinner that it does.

In other news, I scrapped three layouts with my March Basic Grey monthly kit. I posted the first one on Monday and the second one on Wednesday. This one I made using just the scraps from the first two - not a single 12"x12" piece of paper was harmed in the making of this layout.

Liz & Gandalf

I used my March Basic Grey layout kit to scrap photos of Liz smooching the giant Lego Gandalf at the Lego Store in Downtown Disney. We took a tour through it while we were waiting for dinner reservations at Catal.

Liz spent her 30th birthday re-watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
There may be more to this picture than meets the eye.

Outlining this sticker was super stressful, but it looks okay. Normally I like to draw around the stickers and not on them, but I had to make an exception in this case because it was elevated off the page.

Papers and embellishments from Basic Grey's "Spice Market" collection: http://goo.gl/XQwf0N

I used the chipboard ampersand from the collection as part of my title - it's fun to combine diecuts and chipboard shapes with your titles.

I used a post-it to mask off the day portion of the date stamp so it would fit perfectly.

 Watch it Come Together

I filmed a video of this layout coming together, which you can watch below or click here to watch on my YouTube channel: Liz & Gandalf.

Thanks so much for watching and have a GREAT week!

NEW VIDEO: Remember When, 12"x24" Layout

Hello again! This is turning out to be a GREAT blogging week for me. Three posts already and it's only Wednesday. :)

Today I have the second of three Basic Grey March kit videos. This one is a two page layout that holds five 4"x6" photos without looking crowded at all!

Remember When

I used my March Basic Grey layout kit to scrap photos of us kids on the beach at Cape Hatteras in North Carolina. It was our first major experience with the Atlantic Ocean (we grew up by the Pacific Ocean).

Basic Grey March Kit: http://goo.gl/AlNSYp

Here's a picture of the left side of the layout. I love how versatile the Spice Market papers are. I really enjoyed working with this collection.

This layout looks like it uses a lot of paper, but it's all in the creative matting.

The right side of the layout has a wonderful cluster of embellishments and some fun banners.

The entire layout has five 4"x6" photos, but doesn't look crowded at all!

Love these painted metal filigrees - part of the Basic Grey "Spice Market" collection. They're such a unique embellishment.

Basic Grey "Spice Market" collection: http://goo.gl/XQwf0N

The layered stickers, chipboard pieces and metal filigrees in this embellishment cluster are covering a little measuring boo boo - creative opportunity!
We added some twine from the Twinery to the March kit - yummy!

 Watch it Come Together

I filmed a video of this layout coming together, which you can watch below or click here to watch on my YouTube channel: Remember When Layout.

Thanks so much for watching and have a GREAT week!

NEW VIDEO: School Memories Album

Happy April 1st! Hopefully your friends and family won't prank you too badly today. :)

Last week I finished the "School Memories" version of the Locker Room album. I had just as much fun with this version as with the "All Star" version, and I am super excited to share it with you!

School Memories

I used the Prima "School Memories" collection to create the academic version of the "Locker Room" album (there was also an athletic version). This is a good-sized album at 5 1/2"x8" so it can easily hold plenty of 4"x6" photos, if desired.

Here are the photos of the finished project. There's also a video with a flip through of the entire book at the end of this post.

If only my school locker was this cool!

I love this chipboard composition book from the collection!

Each layout has at least one handmade folder - they look just like our old school folders!

Learn how to make these adorable handmade paper clips in the class videos!

I had fun doodling and making these chalkboards throughout the album.

I couldn't be happier with how this stack of books turned out - so cute!

An apple for the teacher! I used Liquid Pearls and Stickles to decorate the wood veneer.

This waterfall holds school photos from Grades 1 through 5.

More fun chalkboard art!

This is my favorite embellishment cluster from the album - so cool!

I made the pocket on the right to hold 4"x6" photos.

More fun with handmade paper clips and layered embellishments.

  New Video

I filmed a video of this album, so you could see how all the pages move and function. You can watch it below or click here to watch on my YouTube channel: School Memories Album.

Album and Kits

This album is available for a limited time as a both a kit and a chipboard album. The athletic version is sold only, and there are only a few academic versions left. Get yours before they sell out!

The All Star version of the Locker Room kit is sold out, but the step-by-step instructional videos are available for purchase if you'd like to get the chipboard album and build your own kit.

Click HERE for the All Star class videos!

The School Memories version was taught live in the classroom. Access to classroom recordings from this project will be granted to those who purchase the kit.
