NEW VIDEO: Mrs. Knott's, 12"x12" Layout

Happy Monday, friends! Today I am going to be reorganizing the shipping and inventory area. Sound like fun? Want to come over and help? No? Really? I'll let you know how it goes. I'll probably be posting/whining about it on Facebook. :)

Over the weekend, I printed some more photos and got to enjoy a little bit of play time with my Basic Grey March Layout Kit. I made three layouts with it that I'll be posting throughout the week - one double page layout and two single page layouts.

Click HERE for more information about the Basic Grey monthly kits.

We have been getting so many awesome responses to our Crop Out Cancer event! I have loved seeing all your cards for the Seton Breast Care Center and we have already surpassed our goal for the American Cancer Society!

There is still time to donate and get your complimentary copy of the Layers of Love manual!

Dinner at Mrs. Knott's

I used my March Basic Grey layout kit to scrap photos of our recent dinner at Mrs. Knott's. Having dinner at Mrs. Knott's always makes me think of two things: 1. my childhood in California and 2. Mildred Pierce (I think I said Mrs. Miniver on the video, which is wrong).

Basic Grey March Kit: http://goo.gl/AlNSYp

This embellishment cluster didn't turn out at all the way I planned, but I love the look of it. Those metal pieces are amazing, and I love the dark sticker layered over the busy chevron.

Basic Grey Spice Market collection: http://goo.gl/XQwf0N

Layering chipboard over stickers and more chipboard gives this embellishment cluster a ton of dimension and makes a wonderful frame for some journaling!

This one was a bit of a salvage job - that's why the journaling is a little wrinkly!

 Watch it Come Together

I filmed a video of this layout coming together, which you can watch below or click here to watch on my YouTube channel: Dinner at Mrs. Knott's.

Thanks so much for watching and have a GREAT week!

NEW MINI ALBUM: "Layers of Love"

Happy Thursday! I have been hard at work with Liz, the Underpaid Intern, on organizing our April "Crop Out Cancer" live event and charity crop to benefit the American Cancer Society and the National Kidney Foundation!

We have lots of exciting events and giveaways planned for you, as well as more than one way to give charitably during the event. We'll be posting more details about how you contribute and participate as we get closer.

The event is open to all and will be on Saturday, April 12, 2014, so mark your calendars!

Layers of Love

I will be giving a complimentary copy of my new manual to each person who donates money to the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney Foundation during the "Crop Out Cancer" event. These charities will be setting up special websites for you to donate through so that I know who to send manuals to. We will also have opportunities for you to donate supplies and cards to benefit Children's Hospital and the Seton Breast Care Center.

The "Layers of Love" album was designed especially for this event, and I will be creating one from start to finish live on the air during the crop.

This paper bag album's hard cover and sturdy spine protect it from wear and tear while making it look beautifully and professionally hand crafted! Holding over 42 4"x6" photos, this album makes a wonderful gift or showcase for a special event.

This 42-page manual contains a supply list, cutting guide, detailed measurements and step-by-step instructions with over 150 color photos for completing this project.

Paper shown: Recollections Bonjour Boutique.

This album holds both 4"x6" photos and 3"x4" photos.

All the flaps and tags make it fun and interactive!

Honoring Our Loved Ones

Our American Cancer Society event website will include a mosaic of photos of anyone we'd like to honor during the event. I know that many of us have known someone affected by cancer or been affected by cancer ourselves. We would love to include photos of you or your loved ones on our mosaic wall.

Please send any photos you'd like included in the mosaic to info@kathrynscraps.com on or before April 1, 2014.

School Memories

I used the Prima "School Memories" collection to start the academic version of the "Locker Room" album in last week's class. This is a good-sized album at 5 1/2"x8" so it can easily hold plenty of 4"x6" photos, if desired.

Here's a peek at the front cover:

How cute is that composition book!?!!! I can't stand it!!!

We'll continue with the "School Memories" version of the album in class today. It's time to decorate those cute looseleaf folders we made last week!

NEW VIDEO: Locker Room Album!

Happy Thursday, cutie pies! With March Madness almost upon us, I was inspired to create a sport themed album. This is the first sport album I have ever done and I am super excited by how it turned out!

All Star

I used the Prima "All Star" collection to create the athletic version of the "Locker Room" album (there's also an academic version - more on that later). This is a good-sized album at 5 1/2"x8" so it can easily hold plenty of 4"x6" photos, if desired.

Here are the photos of the finished project. There's also a video with a flip through of the entire book at the end of this post.

My inspiration for the front cover was my high school locker - lots of bits and pieces of ephemera.

My inspiration for the inside pages was a vintage athletics office - messy and lots of papers!

I loved adding little phrases and subtitles throughout the album with these word tiles.

I left room for journaling in the upper right corner - the paper has a grid that makes hand journaling easy!

These wood embellishments are endlessly customizable - I love how they look with gold stickles!

I used chalkboard paper and a chalk marker to make my own playbook in the upper right corner!

These layers of paper and chipboard on the custom file folders have such a cool look!

The always popular waterfall flip book makes an appearance! Lots of room for photos.

I used a lot of circle elements in this album to reinforce the sports theme.

More chalkboard art - this was so fun and easy to do!

Love how this folder looks sitting on the pile of tickets.

  New Video

I filmed a video of this album, so you could see how all the pages move and function. You can watch it below or click here to watch on my YouTube channel: "Locker Room" Video.

Easier DIY Chalkboard Art!

Hello, lovelies! I am still on a Spring kick, so I was bopping around Pinterest looking for some Spring printables. I actually came across this awesome chalkboard art from Ella Claire:

Easier Chalk Art

Exploring Ella Claire's lovely site led me to an awesome tutorial on easier chalkboard art.

This tutorial is designed for taking smaller chalkboard art and blowing it up for your wall, but this is easily adaptable for us crafters!

We can use it to make chalkboard art for our pages and cards by shrinking the grids and using our chalkboard papers and markers. You could use any font or title you like, as well! Just arrange it in your Word Processing program or Photoshop.

Here's an awesome round up of chalkboard fonts from Yellow Bliss Road to get you started:

FREE Vintage Music Paper Downloads!

Happy Monday, friends! I hope you have a wonderful week planned for yourselves. Can you believe it is already March? Because I certainly can't. This year is really rocketing along.
Last Thursday evening, I made this lovely card during class:

Printable Music Paper

The background is music paper that I adhered to a card front, sealed with gel medium, lightly painted with gesso and then colored with Gelatos (any water based medium would work - even watered down acrylic paint).
I decided to bop around Pinterest looking for some free music paper downloads (for those of you who don't have a stash of vintage papers) and found these gorgeous papers from Far, Far Hill.

Far, Far Hill

The more I looked around the site, the more impressed I was! There are a ton of free printables, as well as larger kits for sale.
Take a look at these Easter Egg printables - how awesome would they look decorated a little and hanging from a tree with ribbons? It would make a fabulous project and decoration for the Spring.
Be sure to visit Far, Far Hill for more fabulous freebies and papers!

Thank You!

Today's Classes Are All About Sketches!

With the early conclusion of the "Sew Much Love" heart album, we're spending the last weeks of February in the classroom on member requests. This week is all about sketches!

We'll be taking one sketch and using it on at least one 12"x12" layout, pocket page protector layout and card front. I'll be sharing some tips and tricks I use to stretch one sketch to work for more than one project.

Sketches

There's a lot of different sketches available for both scrapbookers and cardmakers. Here are five that I enjoy working with:

PageMaps

Creative Scrappers

Once Upon a Sketch

Sketchabilities

and

Inspired Blueprints

All of these sites offer sketches as well as have sketch interpretations from talented design team members to inspire you if you need a jumping off point.

Supplies

Today I'll be using papers and embellishments from Bo Bunny's Modern Miss collection.

Get this cool collection here: http://goo.gl/vsNk6Z

I also have some wonderful new goodies from Doodlebug that may make an appearance or two. Just because they're new and I really want to play with them. I'm sure you guys understand. ;)

Mixed Media Classes: Gelatos 101 and 102

With the early conclusion of the "Sew Much Love" heart album, we'll be spending the next two weeks in the classroom on some member requests. This week we'll be covering the Faber-Castell Gelatos from A to Z, and I'll be showing you lots of different ways to use these versatile mediums alone and with a variety of other mediums and tools.

These classes will be a lot like Stamping 101 and Die Cutting 101, where we will start with the basics and get to more advanced techniques as we go!

Gelatos

When I asked a few months back what mixed media tutorials and classes you most wanted to see this year, one of the most common requests was for a class on the Faber Castell Gelatos.

Gelatos are creamy, water soluble sticks infused with color. The color glides easily onto papers and can then be dissolved with water to create watercolor effects or left to dry for vibrant color.

I have developed two classes using the Gelatos in a several different ways, and with a wide variety of tools and mediums so you can see just how versatile these products are.

Supplies

Gelatos come in two sizes and 36 colors. There are 28 regular colors and two "designer series" sets of four colors each.

The two sizes are the original sticks and the new Double Scoop Gelatos which are over twice the size of the originals and come in the 18 most popular colors. These are a great choice if you really love your Gelatos and use them a lot.

Gelatos Gift Set: http://goo.gl/Bgi6KI

Double Scoop Set: http://goo.gl/JENcP5

You can step up your application of Gelatos with some simple tools. We'll go over the different ways to apply Gelatos - from your finger tips to a stippling brush.
Gelatos Tool Set: http://goo.gl/pyRkxh

Since Gelatos are pigment and water soluble, they can be used with a variety of artist mediums - including those most commonly used for acrylic paints. We'll be enhancing our Gelatos with Gesso, Gel Medium and Glaze.
Artist Medium Sampler Pack: http://goo.gl/hSL2Sx

As a special bonus, I'll show you how to get a GREAT application of modeling paste every time!

Using the right knife makes a huge difference with Modeling Paste.
The one on the left is great for applying paste: http://amzn.to/1gXi8l6

Gelatos are water soluble, so a water brush can come in very handy for painting and blending. You can also use paintbrushes with water - just make sure you keep one clean water bowl and one dirty
Deluxe Water Brush: http://goo.gl/VsZkXs

We'll use misted water to blend, create backgrounds and make drip affects with our Gelatos!
Ranger Mini Mister (3 Pack): http://goo.gl/IiXtY1

Gelatos work beautifully with stencils - in more than one way. Stencils add great texture to your projects - whether using modeling paste, Gelatos, mist or other mediums.
Kaisercraft 12"x12" Chevron Template: http://goo.gl/sSH5W2

You'll also need some papers and other mediums to play with. I'll be talking about using Gelatos on a variety of canvases, including cardstock (white, black and kraft), watercolor paper, untreated canvas, book pages and more!

I can't wait until Thursday - this class is going to be so fun!

NEW VIDEO: "Made With Love" Recipe Album

Hiya! I have another new video for you today! This one is a long one, so maybe grab a cup of coffee (or an adult juice box if you're reading this after 5:00 o'clock) and settle in for almost an hour of crafty goodness.

Adult Juice Boxes available at Target Stores.

Made With Love

Over the weekend, I was super productive. In addition to printing photos and getting some scrapbooking done, I finished constructing, filming and editing the video for the Simple Stories "Homespun" Recipe Album class videos.

This 6"x8" SN@P! Album from Simple Stories is a great size for either a very useable recipe album (it holds 4"x6" recipe cards super well) or it's perfect to use for a family album.

This album is a GREAT size at 6"x8"!

The recipe theme can be tweaked to be a "Recipe for Love" or a "Recipe for a Happy Family" or anything else along those lines. Then you can add photos and mini layouts to the page protectors and use the included recipe cards for journaling.

Look how awesome and full this album is!

Not only are all the supplies I used on this album (minus adhesive, tools and ink) included in this kit, but you also get printed color instructions and video for making adorable layouts like the one below.

I just love this bright, colorful collection!

What's In The Kit

This kit includes everything you need to complete the project (aside from tools, ink and adhesive) for just $39.95! That includes the full color instructions, as well as all the supplies.

That's a lot of stuff for less than $40.00! Plus you get to have a relaxing evening assembling it and enjoying this brand new product.

Click HERE to get your "Made With Love" Recipe Album kit.

Watch it Come Together

I filmed a video of this layout coming together, which you can watch below or click here to watch on my YouTube channel: Made With Love.

Thanks so much for watching & have a GREAT week!
