Hi, everyone! Welcome back to Life on the {Scrap}beach!
I spent a good chunk of last week updating the way that I store my Glimmer Mists as part of my 2010 organizational kick. Those of you who watched either of my UStream shows last Thursday have already seen the new storage & reference system, but I thought I'd post pics here for anyone who may have missed it.
One of the regular readers and commentors on this blog, Jill W., sent me a link to a Glimmer Mist swatch book idea on the Tattered Angels website. I loved the idea so I decided to make one! After all, I can't resist a good organizational/reference system! :D
I sprayed two swatches with each of my Glimmer Mist colors on white American Crafts cardstock. One swatch was larger and the other was smaller. The large swatches went onto a ring {well, actually a string} for easy color reference and selection. Here's a look at the larger swatches:
On the back of each swatch is a label with the color name and the name of the special collection it belongs to, if applicable:
I hang the swatches from a knob on the lamp next to my desk. They're very easy to reach there & I can quickly select a color for my project:
The smaller swaches went onto the lids of the Glimmer Mist bottles so I could see which color was which without having to take them out of their basket to look at the labels:
The bottles are arranged in their basket in the order in which they are on the swatch ring. That makes it easy for me to zero in on the part of the basket I need. I used strips of extra thick chipboard to create rows of Glimmer Mist in the basket so they weren't all just crammed in there randomly.
So that's it! If you'e a Glimmer Mist Addict like me, I hope you get some use out of this post! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Kathryn, I think I'm on the road to becoming a GM addict myself! I started with one and now I have 12. I like these ideas, especially the small dots on the lids. These GMs are frequently on sale on the Joanns site and that's the only time I buy them 'cuz they're pricey.
ReplyDeleteHow's about a GM vid when you can manage it? I use them quite often but I'm not 100% happy with the effect sometimes. Maybe doing something wrong, lol?

Hi, everyone! Glad you liked the storage idea! Glimmer Mist is pricey, so you need to keep your eye out for deals and stock up when you can. I have a ton of Glimmer Mists mostly because I love them and am addicted to using them, but also because I stock up whenever they drop below $5.00 at a place where I know I can get free shipping. I also am a member of my friend Jenn's "Glimmer Mist Gals Club" which is a monthly GM subscription ~ 5 bottles for $25.00, US shipping included. But I've only paid more than $5.00 for two of the bottles in that basket & those were the first two bottles I bought {back before I really knew what GM was, how to use it or any better}.
ReplyDeleteJill, I appreciate how you are always sharing new ideas with me! You have good taste & you find cool stuff, even if they do usually involve a lot of work. :)
Liz, I will add a GM techniques and tips video to my suggestion list on the blog sidebar. That's a good idea. I should probably do a GM video since there IS kind of a trick to it & I didnd't really *get* GM when I first started using it.

Kathryn,
ReplyDeleteWhat size are the circles for the tops of the bottles?
I have been doing the swatch thing for a while for all my distress inks, alcohol inks, etc. But I think the top of the bottle idea is good for the glimmer mists.

Kelly, I used the smallest circle in the Nestabilies "Standard Circles, Small" set which is 5/8" according to their website. I hope that helps!

Kathryn, thanks for adding a glimmer mist demo to your vid list...I'm in the dark with this new product and would love to see it in action!

OMG - and now that I think about it, GM isn't even a "new" product....goes to show how often I've found time lately to craft/research what's going on out there in the crafting world. Booooo!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI love getting inspiration from other creative people. I get some great ideas from you. I have an award for you if you stop by my site.
