NEW CLASS + SHOP ITEM: Picture This Album

We're getting ready to start a new USTREAM album series this June: a photography centered album to house all your favorite photos using the Bo Bunny "Mama Razzi 2" collection.
I am really excited about this project and the Bo Bunny collection - I'm looking forward to chronicling how photography and the way we take pictures has changed over the years & my own personal evolution with photography.
Here is a picture of the album I'll be using:

This approx. 7"x9" chipboard + wood grain album is available in my shop now!
When you purchase the album, you will get three sheets of picture frame style extra heavy chipboard and three sheets of picture frame styled wood grain paper. In the photo above, you can see how I sprayed the wood grain with Heidi Swapp Color Shine to change the color to match the paper collection. I also cut the pages in half so we'll be making a smaller album that looks like a picture frame when opened. I love it!

Since the album is cut from plain chipboard and white cardstock, you'll still be able to play along if the Bo Bunny papers are not to your taste. The neutral colors will go with any paper collection you'd like to use!

Click here for a more in depth discussion of the "Picture This!" album and a supply list: Picture This!

On today's USTREAM shows, we'll be going over the supplies for the upcoming project above, as well as making a viewer project request: the project planner Leisa Herbst designed as a gift for each of us at CHA!

I created some inserts for the planner:

In the afternoon class, we'll be going over in detail the supplies for the "Picture This!" album, as well as supplies for our upcoming masculine/Father's Day projects. Then we'll be getting to work on the project planner, so gather some cardstock and your favorite paper collection and join us!

n the evening class, we'll be completing the planner + doing some decorating.

Classes are this afternoon from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Eastern USA time and then again this evening from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM Eastern USA time.

All classes and their recordings will be over on my USTREAM channel: Kathryn Scraps!

See you there!

NEW VIDEO: What Does Desdichaedo Mean?

I have a new layout and video to share with you today!
This one features papers from Park Bench collection by Fancy Pants Designs:

There was a challenge kicking around YouTube to explain the meaning behind your YouTube user id. Since that's a question I get asked from time to time, I decided to create a layout explaining some of the meaning behind it.

I wanted to play with layering circles on this layout - I love the movement it gives!

This sticker from My Mind's Eye was the perfect accent for this layout. Not only I am explaining the story behind my name, but the origins of the name are in a novel. Love the extra meaning it gives. Plus that yellow looks gorgeous over that blue doily.

I used Nestabilities to cut these circles from the papers in the collection.

I used circles throughout this layout to soften all the hard edges from the layers of patterned paper. This piece was my favorite - I love the black over the gold glitter (Martha Stewart).

That blue button is covering up a tear in the paper - opportunities for embellishment are everywhere!

I used a roller date stamp to add a date to this label from Jillibean Soup. I didn't actually have one that went back to 1982, but with some creative masking, I was able to make this one work just fine.

I love the layers of stickers here - just the right touch!

My title was a combination of Mini Market stickers by October Afternoon and DIY Thickers by American Crafts. Using all Thickers for such a long title would have been too much, but the combination of stickers keeps it from being overwhelming.

I used the Martha Stewart glitter to make my Thickers sparkle!

I filmed this layout coming together for my YouTube channel. You can watch the video below, or click this link to watch it over on YouTube: What Does Desdichaedo Mean?

Today's Thursday, so we have USTREAM starting at 2:00 PM Eastern USA time and again at 9:00 PM Eastern USA time. Join me on my USTREAM channel for fun chatting and lots of scrapbooking!

May Layout Week on USTREAM!

Thank you for participating in May Layout Week on my USTREAM channel yesterday! Chat was so much fun yesterday and we got two beautiful layouts created.

The first layout used the Bo Bunny Snow Play collection. This was the fifth installment in a series of classes that started in January showing how you can use seasonal papers all year in non-seasonal ways.

I customized the paper with inks and embossing folders so it matched my photos perfectly!

To see how this layout was made, click here for the USTREAM recording: May Layout, Bo Bunny Version.

The second layout used the Pink Paislee Hope Chest collection. Each month we do two layouts - one with the seasonal paper and the other with a paper that is not themed.

I used the WRMK Envelope Punch Board to make these envelopes.

To see how this layout was made, click here for the USTREAM recording: Part One and Part Two.

Thanks so much for joining me! Our next Layout Week will be on Thursday, June 6, 2013!

Happy Scrapbook Day!

Today is National Scrapbook Day! Hip! Hip! Hooray!

In honor of our favorite national holiday, I will be doing a special USTREAM class starting at 3:00 PM Eastern USA time to teach my new Garden Lattice Box technique. Join me on my USTREAM channel for fun, prizes and lots and lots of scrapbooking!

For today's project, we'll be making this beautiful garden box with attached lattice from chipboard and cardstock. Decorated with the Pink Paislee Hope Chest collection, and holding anything you want, this rustic garden box will make an awesome home decor piece.

The rustic, distressed finish of the project takes more time to achieve than we will have during class on National Scrapbook Day. Because of this, and because of the holiday, I have made a special BONUS VIDEO to go along with the project's manual.

Those who purchase the manual will also get access to private videos where I build and decorate the Garden Lattice Box from the ground up. You'll also get a bonus video of me decorating the album that goes inside my box. These videos are completely exclusive to manual owners - they will not be shown anywhere else online.

Here's a first look at the finished Garden Lattice Box:

Supplies:

7*  sheets of 12”x12” white woodgrain textured cardstock
5* sheets of 12”x12” medium to heavy weight chipboard
1 sheet of 12”x12” colored cardstock in a color which compliments the finish of your woodgrain paper (mine is mostly green, so I used a green cardstock)
Pink Paislee "Hope Chest" collection
*these are the EXACT number you need for the project, get an extra if you want to have a spare on hand for cutting issues - not that I would know anything about those! ;D

Tools:
Strong adhesive, such as Scor-tape or Scotch Quickdry (liquid glue is best)
Pencil + Eraser
Ruler (a clear, centering ruler is best)
bone folder / paper creaser
Score board
Craft knife
Paper trimmer
Scissors

Other:
Ink or Paint to distress the woodgrain for a rustic look, if desired
(I used Tea Dye Distress Ink, Peeled Paint Distress Stain, and Pea Shoot and Sycamore Bark Martha Stewart Satin Paint)
Flowers, leaves and vines to decorate the box and lattice
Other embellishments to decorate as desired

The 40+ page manual with bonus videos costs $24.95 and includes TONS of color photos illustrating the steps needed to complete the album, as well as examples of decorated pages.

Manuals are available now on my website. The manual + a link to the Garden Lattic Box instructional video will be sent to you via email within 24 hours of purchase. The special bonus video of the album decoration will be made available on Monday, May 6, 2013.

To purchase your Garden Lattice Box instruction manual, please visit my shop: Kathryn's Shop.

Thanks for stopping by & I hope to see you this afternoon!

No USTREAM Today - See You on NSD!

This Saturday, May 4, 2013 is National Scrapbook Day! In honor of our favorite national holiday, I will be doing a special USTREAM class at 3:00 PM Eastern USA time to teach my new Garden Lattice Box technique.

Since I have been working VERY HARD to make a beautiful project for you (with a manual AND bonus videos), I need to take today off from USTREAM to rest up for Saturday. I appreciate you guys being so supportive and understanding and encouraging me to take a day off!

I am really out of practice with this working hard business. :D
