Hi, everyone! Welcome back to Life on the {Scrap}beach! I hope you each had a relaxing and revitalizing weekend! I spent some time working on my tan {an endless project, fraught with peril, as I am whiter than milk & my skin seems to have two shade levels: snow and lobster} and attended a pool party. I also got a ton of scrapping done and it was so fun! I finished a mini album I've been working on with my July kit from the Girls Gone Scrappy kit club.
I just uploaded the first video in my new "Big Pinks" series over on my YouTube Channel. This is a 5"x5" chipboard mini album which I am using to highlight photos of all the flamingos I've seen down here. I was able to get a ton of photos in this album, as you will see, so hopefully you'll get plenty of ideas for ways to include photos and journaling in your mini albums!
Thanks for watching & I hope you enjoyed it!

Hi, Steff! I just counted, and I was actually able to get 16 photos into this mini! Most of them are at least 3"x3" in size ~ there are only three, I think, that are smaller than that. I hope the rest of the video series will give you idea for incorporating more photos into your minis! :D Thanks for watching & I'm glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteLove it so far. I like how you show your projects with pictures. Also of videos show them completed but not filled which makes it harder to picture it completed. I always worry if my pictures won't match my paper or sdo they have to? I get stuck. I also worry about using paper that looks too vintage b/c will the modern colors and pictures fit? I do like your idea of using black and white or sepia toned but what about when you want ot use the regular pictures? To match or not to match...that is the question??? Help oh mini album queen...help!
ReplyDeleteAmy, in regards to matching photos and papers, I'd like to quote Stacy and Clinton from TLC's What Not to Wear: "It doesn't have to match ~ it has to go."
ReplyDeleteI used to try to match my papers to my photos and I drove myself crazy trying to find the exact right shade of Bazzill to go with those pants or that short or whatever. I stopped trying to match my papers to my photos about a year ago and switched to trying to create a certain feeling or mood for the layout that is appropriate for the photos. In the beginning, it was hard to switch, so I actually started creating layouts without photos. I looked at my photos and decided what sizes I wanted where and then just went to town. This basically opened up all papers and embellishments to me & when I was done with the layout the photos looked great! I still scrapbook this way sometimes ~ by creating an album or layout without any cosnideration for photos and then adding them later.
The bottom line is that your book needs to look good to you & you need to have fun and not stress because this is a hobby & we are supposed to play! Yay! Basically as long as it doesn't look bad, I don't sweat it. :D

Haven't watched the video yet, after reading the questions above however, I need to interject...
ReplyDeleteAMEN -
I have been able to enjoy this hobby so much more since you've pointed out that I'm doing this because it's something I enjoy, not something that is "expected".
Thank you, oh mighty mini-queen!
off to watch...

Awesome!! Love the theme...

Hooray, Jill! I am SO HAPPY to read that! :D :D :D I am so glad that you gave yourself permission to just play and that you are enjoying it more! Maybe we can "save" Amy before she gets too bogged down in all the guilt and perfectionism that can spoil this hobby! ;)
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked the album!

Hi Kathryn,
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute mini this will be! I like the "pinkiness" of it all. I don't get to work with pinks often as I have too many males in my family, but believe me, whenever I do a layout with gals in them, I'm all over it with the fuschias, baby pinks, etc. Love it! Looking forward to the next installment.
BTW, I didn't get to comment on your last video--I adore that half marathon album. It's so vibrant and fun. I won't be cutting a word album anytime soon, but if I find a one that'll fit my theme, I'm on (and of course, I'll rewatch your vids on it to refresh my failing memory!). I do that often--just rewatch something you've done before to inspire me.
Thanks as always and have a great week.
-Liz
Hiya, Liz! Good to hear from you again! Yes, this album is very pink. Very, very pink! Which is great because it is all about flamingos!
ReplyDeleteI hope you find exactly the right word soon & have fun playing with it!
